A Navy veteran without any known family is being honored with a funeral service on Wednesday in Wichita, Kansas, surrounded by members of the community.

Stephen J. Morrison, who was born in 1958, received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy in 1977.

Following his passing last month, and the absence of any relatives to claim him, Morrison is set to receive full military honors during his funeral at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. The community is warmly invited to join.

After the service, the Navy veteran will be laid to rest at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. His casket will be escorted by volunteers from the American Legion Riders based in Mulvane.

“For most people, this holds significant meaning. Many veterans have returned and often faced challenging circumstances, whether due to substance abuse or financial hardship, often lacking the resources they need to recover,” stated Mark Hansen, Manager of Resthaven Cemetery, in an interview with Fox News Digital.

“They served bravely for us, risking their lives. As someone who isn’t a veteran myself, I feel it’s the least I can do to honor them and provide them the respect they rightfully deserve,” Hansen remarked further.

The Department of Veterans Affairs and Dignity Memorial Services did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
