Authorities discovered a body igniting within a shopping cart along a sidewalk in Yonkers, New York, which was later tied to additional remains found inside a Bronx apartment.

The victim was found near the Oak Street Bridge over the Bronx River Parkway shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday, as reported by Yonkers Police on social media.

Responding to reports of a fire, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the Mount Vernon Fire Department extinguished the flames, only to uncover a deceased body.

Upon arrival, Yonkers Police discovered the body in the shopping cart. The Yonkers Police Department initiated a death investigation and subsequently classified the incident as a homicide. They determined that the site where the body was found was simply a “dump site” despite it being located within Yonkers.

The investigation has now been handed over to the New York City Police Department and the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office.

It is believed that the victim was murdered inside an apartment on Rogers Place in Longwood, Bronx, before much of the body was supposedly disposed of in a shopping cart, transported via the Melrose MetroNorth train station a few stops north to Mount Vernon West, and left on the Oak Street Bridge in Yonkers, where it was subsequently set ablaze, officials informed CBS New York.

Investigators have utilized surveillance footage to trace the suspects as they traveled to Yonkers and back to the Bronx, according to the outlet. The NYPD executed a search warrant Monday night at the apartment, leading to the recovery of body parts, including hands and teeth.
