• Acquired the title of Australia’s youngest gold medallist at only 14
  • Remarkable final performance earned her the women’s park championship

The parents of Australia’s youngest Olympic gold medallist made her an astonishing promise if she clinched victory in Paris.

Arisa Trew, aged 14, garnered a score of 93.18 in the women’s skateboard park event, surpassing all her rivals to ascend to the top of the podium.

However, a gold medal isn’t her only reward; her parents pledged her an unusual pet if she triumphed in the event.

“My parents promised me that if I won the gold medal, I could get a pet duck,” she revealed on the Today show on Wednesday morning.

The skateboarding star shared plans to take her new pet for “walks and to the skate park” once she returns home to Australia.

Ms. Trew noted that a duck is appropriate for her hectic schedule as she travels for competitions.

“My parents wouldn’t let me get a dog or cat because we are constantly on the move,” she explained.

“I thought a duck might be a bit easier to manage.”

The aspiring skateboarder mentioned she would provide her new pet duck with a small pool in her backyard.

Ms. Trew is the first Australian to win a medal in women’s skateboarding, and notably, Japan did not secure a gold in this category for the first time, thanks to her exceptional performance.

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk expressed admiration for Trew’s skills.

“She absolutely earned it, and I think she is paving the way for what is achievable in skateboarding and women’s skateboarding,” he remarked after her victory.
