Team GB’s Georgia Hall and Charley Hull faced a challenging opening day at the women’s Olympic golf competition held at Le Golf National.
Hull finished with a score of nine-over 81, placing her in 58th position out of 60 participants, while Hall’s score of 74 leaves her tied for 30th at two over par.
As there is no cut for this event, both players are safe to continue in the tournament, although they trail significantly behind leader Celine Boutier after the first of four rounds.
Boutier of France sits at seven under par, having shot a round of 65, and leads by three strokes over South Africa’s Ashleigh Buhai.
Defending champion Nelly Korda from the USA bounced back from a tough start to end the day at even par, placing her seven shots back from Boutier and tied for 13th overall.
“It’s great to have a solid first round, and I’m feeling very positive for the rest of the week,” Boutier commented, having made history as the first Frenchwoman to win a major on home soil at the 2023 Evian Championship.
“The first round doesn’t carry much weight—there are still three more days to go, and in golf, anything can happen.”
