Representative Cori Bush, D-Mo., a member of the “Squad,” faced significant backlash on social media Tuesday following her defeat in the primary election.
Bush lost to St. Louis County prosecutor Wesley Bell, a more centrist candidate who received substantial support from pro-Israel organizations that invested millions to defeat her in Missouri’s deeply Democratic 1st Congressional District due to her outspoken criticism of Israel. The phrase “Good riddance” trended on X as numerous users, including some not aligned with conservative views, celebrated her loss.
Cultural figure Michael Rapaport celebrated Bush’s defeat with #SquadGoals, expressing his “joy” at her loss, while the conservative account Libs of TikTok remarked, “The squad are too radical even for Democrats.”

Bush is the second member of her progressive group to be defeated in a primary this year, following Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., who also lost to a more moderate pro-Israel Democrat. It is rare for sitting House members to be removed by primary challengers.
Comedian Tim Young quipped, “Even Democrats can’t stand the squad.”
“Cori Bush becomes the second squad member to lose a primary this election cycle. She and Jamaal Bowman can now join Hamas,” wrote OutKick founder Clay Travis.
Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., humorously noted he will “miss Cori Bush missing every committee meeting.”
Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., stated, “Cori Bush is HISTORY… and not a moment too soon.”
Pundit T.J. Moe commented, “Good riddance to the worst representation in the history of Missouri, Cori Bush.”
“Cori Bush lost tonight because she didn’t take her district seriously and became a national figurehead for overly radical ideas like ‘defund the police.’ Future of progressive politics will look less like Bush and more like Walz,” expressed progressive activist Brianna Wu.

Pro-Israel Democrat Steven Goldstein stated, “As a Democrat, I celebrate Cori Bush’s defeat. Her persistent animosity towards Israel and disregard for Jewish safety crossed into pathological antisemitism. There is no place for hate in public service, no matter the party.”
Some leftists accused AIPAC and other pro-Israel organizations of targeting Bush with a multi-million dollar ad campaign or of effectively purchasing the seat.
“AIPAC can take pride in removing another member of the ‘squad,’ but in the end, they’ll be the real losers. They and their allies wasted over $13 million smearing and defaming @CoriBush. She was much loved, and their treatment will not be forgotten,” remarked James J. Zogby, founder of the American Arab Institute.
Many others expressed their thoughts on X following Bush’s loss:
Bush also faced criticism for her comments about being radicalized and her threats to “tear” down AIPAC during her concession speech.
