Quincy Hall surged ahead to claim victory in the men’s 400m final, securing his first Olympic gold medal.
This marks the United States’ first gold in the event since LaShawn Merritt won in 2004, when the USA swept all the medals.
This is the first medal for the United States since Merritt’s bronze finish in 2016.

Hall completed the race in 43.40 seconds, marking a personal best and coming just 0.37 seconds shy of the world-record time.
This victory adds to the United States’ tally, making it the fourth individual gold medal in track and field, alongside Noah Lyles (100M), Cole Hocker (1500M), and Ryan Crouser (shot put).
The 26-year-old finished third at last year’s world championships but was part of the gold medal-winning 4x400m relay team during that event.
