According to Autosport, Sergio Perez is set to continue as Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull Racing after the summer hiatus.

The future of the Mexican driver at Red Bull was a focal point during a meeting on Monday with team principal Christian Horner and advisor Helmut Marko among the management in attendance.

While no official announcement has come from the team meeting, sources indicate that Horner has informed the staff at the Milton Keynes factory that Perez will be behind the wheel when the 2024 season resumes with the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of August.

In contrast to teammate Verstappen, who has achieved seven grand prix victories to date, Perez has struggled to extract the same level of performance from Red Bull’s RB20.

With the team’s competitive edge diminishing, Perez’s ongoing difficulties since May have allowed McLaren to pose a stronger title challenge, currently sitting just 42 points behind in the standings.

After a challenging day in Belgium where Perez fell from second on the grid to eighth, only to regain a position due to George Russell’s disqualification, concerns about his future with the team appeared to grow. However, it seems the 34-year-old has been given another chance to improve his performance.

In his comments on Sunday night, Horner remarked, “It’s frustrating because nobody wants to see Checo struggle. Everyone is rooting for him to succeed, as it’s painful to watch him in this predicament.”

“No one wants to face that decision; it’s a topic you discuss every single day. However, as a team, we are dedicated to helping him recover his performance.”

Following another challenging race, Perez expressed his decision to stop addressing the ongoing rumors regarding his future.

“We have a lot of things happening within the team that require our attention, and we can’t afford to waste energy on speculation,” he stated.

“This is the final time I will discuss the future to set the record straight: I will no longer engage in any further questions about it.”
