Politico modified a headline that referred to Vice President Harris’ endorsement of a fracking ban as a “Trump accusation,” even though she has openly supported such a ban multiple times during the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.
The original headline from Politico stated, “Harris campaign pledges she won’t ban fracking after Trump accusation,” in an article published on Sunday.
Harris’ campaign has asserted that the presumptive Democratic nominee does not intend to ban fracking. GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has highlighted Harris’ initial viewpoint on the issue at his campaign rallies, accusing the vice president of changing her stance.
“Trump’s misleading assertions regarding fracking bans are a clear attempt to divert attention from his own agenda to benefit oil and gas executives while hurting the middle class,” the Harris campaign told Politico. “The Biden-Harris Administration has enacted the largest climate change legislation in history, and under their leadership, America has achieved its highest level of domestic energy production ever.”

VP HARRIS FACES BACKLASH IN CRUCIAL SWING STATE AFTER HER ‘DISASTROUS’ ANTI-FRACKING POSITION RESURFACES
After referring to Harris as “the ultra-liberal driving force behind every single Biden catastrophe,” Trump remarked at a recent rally, “She wants no fracking. You’re going to be paying a lot of money. You’re going to be paying so much. You’re going to say ‘bring back Trump.’”
Politico classified Trump’s comments about Harris’ earlier position as “allegations” in the “Background” section of the article.
The report conveyed, “Trump’s allegations emerge as Harris is anticipated to moderate her views on energy as she was one of the more liberal candidates during the 2020 party nomination race.”
The revised headline now reads, “Harris campaign pledges she won’t ban fracking.”
“The headline was updated to accurately represent the Vice President’s shifting positions on fracking,” a Politico spokesperson informed Fox News Digital.

The revised headline faced criticism on social media.
CNN’s Andy Kaczynski commented on social media that Politico’s framing was “bizarre,” asserting that it wasn’t an “accusation.”
“She said it on the record numerous times in 2019. The news is that she just recently changed her position publicly,” he stated.
Harris also supported the Green New Deal during her 2020 presidential campaign, which also involved banning fracking.

“There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking,” Harris declared during a CNN town hall in 2019 as a presidential candidate.
“And starting with what we can do on day one around public lands, right? And then there has to be legislation, but, yes, that’s something I’ve taken on in California. I have a history of working on this issue, and to your point we have to just acknowledge that the residual impact of fracking is enormous in terms of the health and safety of communities,” she added at the time.
In 2019, she also participated in a “slow-jam the news” segment with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show,” where she pledged to “get rid of fracking once and for all.”
