Social media users were left perplexed on Monday by President Biden’s reaction to House Speaker Mike Johnson’s resistance to his proposed radical changes to the Supreme Court.
In an op-ed published in the Washington Post on Monday, Biden urged Congress to establish term limits and a code of conduct for the Supreme Court, along with proposing restrictions on presidential immunity.
Johnson commented that Biden’s proposal would be “dead on arrival” in Congress. When asked about this remark, Biden redirected the criticism back towards the speaker.

“That’s exactly what he is,” Biden stated in a video shared by Washington Post reporter Matt Viser.
THE GROWING THREAT BEHIND BIDEN’S SUPREME COURT PROPOSAL
Upon further questioning, Biden reiterated, “He is. Dead on arrival.”
Biden echoed this remark during his speech on his op-ed at the LBJ Presidential Library, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.
“The Republican Speaker of the House claims that anything he proposes is dead on arrival,” Biden remarked. “Well, I’m thinking his reasoning is dead on arrival!”
Many X users found Biden’s comments to be odd and somewhat hypocritical.
Fox News contributor Joe Concha commented, “’Put Trump in a bullseye’ has transitioned to the faux POTUS stating House Speaker Johnson is ‘dead on arrival.’ But JD Vance is strange. Or something.”
RedState writer Bonchie noted, “Can you imagine if Donald Trump had said Kamala Harris was ‘dead on arrival’ and then repeated it when asked for clarification? Jake Tapper would be hyperventilating right now.”
Conservative commentator Steve Guest suggested that Biden’s statements sounded threatening towards the Speaker.
Margot Cleveland, senior legal correspondent for The Federalist, remarked, “Our Commander-in-Chief just threatened to eliminate the Speaker of the House.”
“Yeah, this guy clearly conceptualized and drafted the op-ed in today’s Washington Post,” joked National Review writer Jeff Blehar.
Abigail Marone, press secretary for Sen. Josh Hawley, questioned, “What does this even mean?”
Matt Gorman, vice president of Targeted Victory, observed, “Only one of them will have a job next year and it isn’t Biden…”

Johnson reacted to Biden’s video on X by posting footage of former President Trump during a debate with Biden.
“I really don’t know what he was trying to say at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he was saying either,” Trump remarked.
Biden’s proposal to “reform” the Supreme Court and limit presidential immunity has been perceived as highly unlikely to succeed in a deeply divided Congress.
