During Israel’s men’s soccer match against Paraguay on Saturday night, antisemitic protesters were heard chanting disturbing slogans, including “Heil Hitler.”

The protesters made their presence felt at Parc des Princes by waving Palestinian flags and displaying a sign stating “Genocide Olympics.”

As Israel’s national anthem played, the protesters shouted “Heil Hitler” while performing the Nazi salute.

Throughout the national anthem, boos resonated amidst the actions of the anti-Israel demonstrators.

Sky News reports that the demonstrators were ejected from the match, which saw Paraguay triumph over Israel with a score of 4-2.

This incident marked the second occurrence of protests during an Israeli match at the Olympics, following a similar reception against Mali the previous Wednesday.

Efforts were made to amplify the stadium speakers to drown out the boos and whistles during the anthem, yet the jeers persisted whenever an Israeli player touched the ball throughout the match.

In response to the protests, Israel’s head coach Guy Luzon maintained a positive outlook, stating, “bring on the loudest protests. They will make us try harder,” according to Ynet News.

In light of the ongoing Israel-Hamas War, Israeli athletes are under close surveillance by both police and Olympic officials for their protection. The soccer team, for example, arrived with a significant police escort for its opener, with armed officers safeguarding the stadium.

Additionally, French police have reportedly initiated an investigation concerning death threats directed at three Israeli competitors, while Olympic organizers have called for an inquiry into the antisemitic protesters present at Saturday’s match, according to Sky News.

“Paris 2024 strongly condemns these acts. A complaint has been lodged by Paris 2024, which is available to the authorities to assist in the investigation,” stated Olympic organizers in a communication to Sky News regarding the antisemitic demonstration.

To ensure the safety of all nations participating in the Olympics, France is deploying 35,000 officers each day and had 45,000 present for the opening ceremonies.
