US Olympic swimmer Ryan Murphy celebrated his medal victory at the Paris Games and shared a joyful moment with his wife in the stands.
Murphy, originally from Chicago and now a resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, earned a bronze medal in the men’s 100m backstroke race.
During the event, his wife, Bridget Konttinen, was seen in the audience holding up a sign for him to read.
The sign read, ‘Ryan, it’s a girl!’.
After the race, he was photographed embracing his wife, followed by a sweet kiss between the parents-to-be.

‘As I was making my way back, I saw Bridget holding up a sign that said — ‘Ryan, it’s a girl,’ ‘ Murphy recounted, as reported by the Associated Press. ‘That was the first moment I discovered the baby’s gender.’
He continued, ‘We both thought it was going to be a boy. Everyone we spoke to had the same impression.’
This achievement marks Murphy’s seventh Olympic medal, solidifying his status as one of America’s most decorated Olympians.
He finished behind Italy’s Thomas Ceccon, who won gold, and China’s Jiayu Xu, who secured silver just 0.07 seconds ahead of him.
Earlier this year, Murphy expressed gratitude towards Konttinen, his college sweetheart whom he married in September 2023, attributing his Olympic success to her constant support during his preparations for the Paris Games.
‘She keeps me motivated about life,’ Murphy shared in an interview with PEOPLE. ‘Her unwavering optimism has greatly influenced my approach to the sport.’
