In a significant development, Liverpool has recruited Richard Hughes from Bournemouth as their sporting director and Pedro Marques from Benfica as the technical director. Hogan mentions that this change will inject “new energy and vision” into the club.
Hughes and Marques will be dedicated exclusively to transfer activities and supporting Slot, while FSG will keep investigating a multi-club model following the collapse of negotiations with French club Bordeaux due to unavoidable complications.
Hogan expressed that it was “unfortunate” Bordeaux has declared bankruptcy, with alternative options being “explored by Michael Edwards”.
Regarding financial regulations in the Premier League, Hogan reaffirmed Liverpool’s commitment to strict rules.
“It’s crucial that the regulations are enforceable, and if clubs violate them, the Premier League has a mechanism to address such issues. We fully support these rules and believe in sustainability,” he stated.
However, he also supported the varying interests within the league in pursuing alternative solutions to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, as discussions are underway regarding rules more aligned with UEFA’s standards.
“We are striving to find the most effective operational approach for everyone moving forward,” he added.
“We are part of the most competitive and globally recognized league, and it’s vital that we maintain that status.”
Liverpool is currently one of 10 clubs touring the United States, while others head to Asia or various European destinations. Hogan also addressed the environmental concerns associated with these tours, as highlighted in a recent BBC Sport report.
“We have a foundational event in Philadelphia that engages with our supporters, bringing the club closer to markets and fans who may not have the chance to visit Anfield or Liverpool. We take the overall environmental impact very seriously.”
Liverpool’s next match is against Arsenal in Philadelphia, followed by a clash with Manchester United in South Carolina to conclude their US tour.
