The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Monday that two female boxers set to compete in the Paris Olympics have met all gender eligibility criteria for participation.
Concerns about the eligibility of Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting were raised following their disqualifications at the 2023 World Championships. Notably, both competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

“All athletes competing in the boxing tournament at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 have met the eligibility requirements and all applicable medical standards,” stated the IOC.
Khelif and Lin faced disqualifications during the women’s world championships in New Delhi in March 2023. The International Boxing Association reported that both athletes did not meet eligibility standards.
Khelif was disqualified due to a high testosterone level detected in a test, as reported by Reuters referencing Algerian media. The boxer claimed this decision was part of a “larger conspiracy.” According to AFP, Khelif was informed that she had “characteristics that prohibit her from competing in women’s events.”

The Algerian Olympic Committee stated at the time that Khelif was disqualified for medical reasons. Lin’s bronze medal was also rescinded due to not meeting International Boxing Association (IBA) standards, causing significant dissent among her team.
IBA President Umar Kremlev elaborated on the decision, as reported by Russia’s Tass News Agency.
“Through DNA testing, we identified several athletes who attempted to deceive their peers by posing as women. The tests confirmed they possess XY chromosomes. Consequently, these athletes were barred from competition,” Kremlev explained.
