Former First Lady Melania Trump was present when aspiring assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire in Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier this month, former President Trump disclosed on Monday.

In an exclusive interview with “The Ingraham Angle,” host Laura Ingraham inquired about Melania’s response to witnessing the rally incident unfold live on television.

“She can’t really talk about it at all. But that’s okay, because it means she cares about me or loves me,” Trump remarked.

“When I went down, she feared the worst because I fell, and I grabbed my ear and saw blood all over my hand. You can see it in slow motion, instant replay,” he elaborated shortly thereafter.

The former president and current Republican nominee was nearly assassinated on July 13 when 20-year-old Crooks opened fire at a campaign rally, resulting in injuries to Trump and others, while firefighter Corey Comperatore lost his life shielding his family from the gunfire.

In the weeks following the event, the lapses in security that led up to the rally have drawn strong bipartisan criticism, culminating in Congress questioning former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who eventually resigned from her position.

During his conversation with Ingraham, Trump underscored the importance of uncovering the truth behind the incident, stating that deciphering what transpired is “very important.”
