Country music artist Jelly Roll has received a unique honor in Flint, Michigan.
Earlier this week, a radio station in Detroit released a video showing Jelly Roll being sworn in by Sheriff Christopher Swanson as a deputy with the Community Cares Task Force.
On Saturday, 99.5 WYCD posted on their Instagram the moment Jelly Roll was presented with his badge.

“From convict to deputy,” the country music artist is heard saying in the video.

Swanson can also be heard stating, “This is the real deal. You can walk into any facility now and tell them you’re a Deputy Sheriff from Genesee County.”
As per Billboard, Swanson and Jelly Roll have collaborated previously. The singer assisted the sheriff in launching the I.G.N.I.T.E. Program at the Genesee County Jail, which aids inmates in earning their GED while incarcerated.

Jelly Roll’s representative did not respond immediately to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
Jelly Roll, whose full name is Jason Bradley DeFord, has been candid about his past and his legal issues.
In a 2023 interview with Billboard, the country music artist disclosed that he was arrested at 16 and charged as an adult with aggravated robbery and possession with intent to sell.

As reported by People magazine, Jelly Roll’s first arrest occurred when he was just 14 years old. The singer has been jailed more than 40 times before breaking the cycle of incarceration and overcoming his addiction issues.
Jelly Roll achieved major success in 2020 with his hit single “Save Me” and has since made a significant impact in the country music industry.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Jelly Roll reflected on how overcoming his troubled past shaped him into the person he is today.

“I wouldn’t be the person I am now without my experiences. It gave me strength and a voice,” he shared at the 2023 CMAs. “It taught me valuable lessons about overcoming challenges and the power of change.”

He added, “For decades, I was a terrible person, and being able to transform that and convey a message through my music and help others… it’s crucial for me to always lend a hand to those in need, reflecting where I came from.”
