Amad Diallo is hopeful that his decisive goal, which eliminated Liverpool from the FA Cup in March, can help him join Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund in a dynamic youthful quartet that will play a pivotal role in Manchester United’s future.

Amad made an impactful appearance off the bench in injury time during the extra period at Old Trafford, securing a thrilling 4-3 quarter-final victory over Liverpool for United. This match marked just his fourth outing of the season, as his progress was hampered by an injury. Nonetheless, he concluded the 2023-24 campaign on a high note, featuring in eight additional matches.

The Ivorian winger reflected on his goal, which came after a remarkable run. “I have rewatched it countless times,” he shared. “That goal was the most significant of my life. I felt immense joy in scoring it. Even now, it feels surreal. After that moment, I gained confidence, and the manager began to place more trust in me by giving me more playing time.”

Under Erik ten Hag last season, the impressive young core included 19-year-old Mainoo, Garnacho, now 20, and 21-year-old Højlund. Amad, who celebrated his 22nd birthday in July, aspires to join this vibrant first-team collective, believing the four of them can become essential players for the squad.

“I certainly hope so,” he stated. “The manager has faith in all these players. He promoted Garnacho two years ago and provided him with ample opportunities, while Kobbie made his mark last season. This year, there’s potential for another young academy talent to be featured. The manager strongly believes in youth, and I hope to earn significant playing time this season, but it will depend on me proving my worth in training and earning my spot in the team.

“The bond we share is robust due to our youth,” added Amad, who scored during United’s 2-0 friendly victory over Rangers at Murrayfield in July.

“I maintain good relationships with all my teammates at United, but I feel a deeper connection with these particular individuals. Rasmus is a great guy, especially considering our shared experience at Atalanta. Kobbie is a wonderful person, and I’m pleased to be part of that group.”

While Ten Hag has primarily utilized Amad on the right flank, he remains open to playing centrally or on the left. “My original position was No. 10 during my time at Atalanta,” he recounted. “Subsequently, I transitioned to right winger, but I’m capable of playing as a No. 10, left winger, or any attacking position – I’m ready to take on any role.”
