Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid has successfully acquired a controlling interest in Ligue 2 club Caen.

Interconnected Ventures, established by Mbappe, has obtained the majority stake in the French club through its investment division, Coalition Capital.

The 25-year-old France international is said to have invested approximately 15 million euros (£12.6 million) of his personal funds through the investment fund.

Coalition Capital takes over from the previous majority stakeholders, the American investment firm Oaktree.

Pierre-Antoine Capton, who is the current president of the club’s supervisory board, continues to hold a minority stake.

“This presents an incredible opportunity for Stade Malherbe Caen to benefit from Coalition Capital’s support in its growth. Their values, commitments, and unique vision for sport are remarkable assets for this project,” said Capton.

Caen wrapped up last season in sixth place and will kick off their Ligue 2 campaign on 17 August against Paris FC. This match will precede Mbappe’s potential La Liga debut for Real Madrid against Real Mallorca, following his free transfer from PSG this summer.

Caen was relegated from Ligue 1 in 2019.

A club announcement stated: “This agreement represents a crucial milestone in the club’s strategic growth and bolsters its inherent aspiration to remain one of the historic teams in French football.”
