Katie Boulter and Heather Watson progressed to the quarter-finals of the Olympic tennis women’s doubles after securing a straight sets victory against the Brazilian team of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Luisa Stefani.

In contrast to the dramatic matches played by Andy Murray and Dan Evans in the men’s doubles, the British women had a more straightforward contest, winning 6-3 6-4.

The British duo took an early lead in the first set and maintained their edge comfortably, although they faced challenges in the second set as the Brazilians applied pressure, prompting them to fend off two break points.

The pair responded with strength, breaking the Brazilian serve and saving additional break points before ultimately closing out the match on their third match point. Boulter showcased her powerful baseline play, while Watson demonstrated her quickness and agility at the net.

Next up for them is a match against the third-seeded Italian pair, Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, both of whom are former singles finalists at Roland Garros.
