The U.S. women’s gymnastics team has been embroiled in a multifaceted drama at the Paris Olympics.

On Wednesday, Jordan Chiles shared a post on her Instagram Stories that seemed to feature Simone Biles’ phone, with their reflections visible on the screen.

On the screen of Biles’ phone, a profile of former teammate MyKayla Skinner appeared, but access to the account was restricted.

Chiles captioned the image, “When she blocks Simone.” Notably, Biles and Skinner do not follow each other on X or Instagram.

Earlier on that same day, Biles tweeted, “oop I’ve been blocked,” which seemed to refer to comments made by Skinner about the team before the Olympics began.

After Biles led the U.S. women’s gymnastics team to a gold medal, making history as the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, she potentially addressed Skinner’s comment with a post captioned, “Lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions,” accompanied by a collage from Tuesday’s memorable competition.

The comment that Biles may have referenced was made by Skinner before the Olympics kicked off. Skinner stated, “Aside from Simone, the overall talent and depth just aren’t what they used to be. I’ve noticed a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The current athletes simply lack the work ethic,” in a now-deleted YouTube video, reported by the New York Post.

Skinner later took to Instagram Stories to clarify her remarks, saying that she felt she had been “misinterpreted or misunderstood,” and subsequently posted an apology to Biles and the team on her page, stating, “I did not intend to offend or disrespect any athlete or diminish their hard work.”

Skinner was a member of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic team, where she earned a silver medal on vault, filling in for Biles, who had to withdraw due to a case of the twisties.

Chiles was also a teammate with both Biles and Skinner that year, contributing to the U.S. silver team medal victory. Suni Lee was another teammate who stood out by being the only U.S. gymnast to win a gold medal in women’s all-around during that competition.

Skinner announced her retirement from gymnastics after the conclusion of the 2020 Olympics.
