Tommie Lee Williams, aged 51, was taken into custody in Gwinnett County, Georgia, after attempting to rob a Chick-fil-A restaurant at approximately 4:30 am.
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, Williams, who was reportedly armed and wearing a mask, broke into the Chick-fil-A located on Stone Mountain Highway. He threatened a delivery driver who was working in the kitchen area with a handgun.

“Upon the officers’ arrival, the victim explained that he was a delivery driver for the establishment and, while working inside, the suspect broke through a drive-thru window using a rock and entered the kitchen,” stated the Gwinnett County Police Department in a Facebook announcement.
“The suspect warned the victim that he would die if he didn’t open the safe and aimed a handgun at him. The victim informed the police that he was unaware of the safe’s combination, prompting him to fight back against the armed robber,” the post further explained.

Surveillance footage captured the two engaging in a struggle for several minutes over the weapon, with the Chick-fil-A driver eventually overcoming the would-be robber.

During the altercation, the Chick-fil-A employee managed to remove the robber’s mask, aiding police in confirming the suspect’s identity. Williams subsequently fled through a back exit, according to police reports.
Ultimately, detectives from the Gwinnett County Police Department identified a vehicle connected to the attempted robbery, which facilitated the arrest of Tommie Lee Williams.

Williams faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and second-degree criminal damage to property.
