A healthcare professional has gained popularity on social media after confusingly claiming a chair was intended for him while he assisted Brazilian fencer Nathalie Moellhausen during the Paris Olympics.

Moellhausen collapsed during her bout against Canada’s Ruien Xiao on Saturday and later disclosed that she has a benign tumor on her coccyx that has been painful.

Immediately after Moellhausen fell, two trainers wearing Brazil uniforms rushed to assist her while another official brought over a chair.

One of the trainers mistakenly sat on the chair, not realizing it was meant for Moellhausen, but quickly stood up upon being informed of the mix-up and helped her into the seat.

With the entire world watching the Olympics in Paris, this moment is one the unnamed assistant will likely remember for a long time.

‘I’ll say he was just checking how sturdy it was by sitting on it,’ commented one user on X, offering a rather lenient perspective on the situation.

Another added: ‘He’s just warming it up for her. Those chairs can be chilly.’

A different user expressed sympathy: ‘When under pressure, I might do similar silly things. I relate to him.’

Meanwhile, Moellhausen has decided to advance her surgery to Monday.

The tumor was reportedly identified back in February, but she had chosen to postpone the operation after being informed of its benign nature.

Nevertheless, it has caused enough discomfort that she required hospitalization before the Games and reportedly needed morphine to manage her back pain.
