Carrie Underwood, the winner of “American Idol,” will take over Katy Perry’s spot on the judging panel.

This news was officially announced on Thursday morning.

“The upcoming season will celebrate 20 years since Carrie captured America’s heart on ‘Idol’ and began her illustrious, multi-GRAMMY Award-winning career. As a former contestant and a vibrant musical talent, she brings a uniquely insightful perspective to one of television’s most cherished programs,” said Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, in a press release. “This marks a significant moment for the show and the fans who have supported it for over two decades. Welcome back, Carrie.”

The singer of “Jesus, Take the Wheel” was the champion of the show’s fourth season in 2005.

Auditions for the new season are set to commence on August 12.

Underwood has also recently extended her “Reflection” Las Vegas residency at Resorts World, adding multiple shows through spring 2025.

Several top artists have been mentioned as potential replacements for Perry since her announcement regarding her exit from the show.

Former “Idol” contestant Adam Lambert told Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live” that a fellow country singer could be an excellent fit.

“I think LeAnn Rimes would be an excellent choice,” he mentioned during the interview.

“I just collaborated with LeAnn Rimes in Australia on ‘The Voice,’ and she’s such a wonderful person—very grounded and insightful, yet she has a fantastic sense of humor. I believe she’d shine on the show.”

Perry confirmed in February on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that she would be stepping down from “American Idol” after seven seasons.

“This might be my final show, my last season for ‘Idol,’” Perry shared at that time.

“I adore ‘Idol’… It has connected me deeply with the heart of America, but I feel it’s time for me to explore new rhythms in my own life,” she remarked with a wink at the host.

Perry has suggested Jelly Roll as a potential replacement.

“When he was on the show, Jelly Roll was a whirlwind,” Perry shared with E! News. “I could buy into anything he said. He could run for president or be my pastor. I might even reconsider my faith for him. He could sell me anything.”

She added, “Having any of these artists, plus Jelly, on the show would be fantastic. Much love to Jelly!”
