Kathie Lee Gifford is making progress in her recovery after being released from the hospital, where she was treated for a traumatic fall that resulted in fractures to her pelvis in two locations.
Following a week-long hospitalization, the 70-year-old television icon provided a health update while she was recuperating from hip replacement surgery due to a simple misstep.
“I’m feeling great!” Gifford told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m thankful to be out of the hospital. The staff was wonderful and took excellent care of me, but there’s truly no place like home.”

The former “Today” co-host shared that as soon as she started feeling better post-surgery, she attempted to resume her usual activities, which inadvertently made her feel weak again — a common issue for individuals recovering from such surgeries.
“This is often what occurs – you believe you’re better because you genuinely are feeling better, but then realize you’re not back to complete normalcy,” Gifford elaborated. “Our bones and similar issues can take months to heal, despite feeling significantly improved.”
Earlier this week, Gifford mentioned that she had to remain hospitalized for a week for physical rehabilitation after her accident.

During a book signing in Nashville, she informed People magazine that she “moved 300 books by herself,” which contributed to her physical decline.
“It’s my own doing,” she remarked.

On the following day, a friend of Gifford’s came over right after her fall.
“It took very little, considering I was weak in that area,” Gifford explained to the outlet. “Before I knew it, I was back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis: both front and back. That was more painful than anything I experienced with the hip. The pain from a pelvic fracture is unbelievably intense. But here I am now.”

After her surgery, Gifford “jumped off that gurney,” but quickly came to the disappointing realization that her body was not ready for the slower pace.
The surgery was needed because Gifford reported that her “hips were down to the nubs,” a condition attributed to her extraordinarily active lifestyle.
Nevertheless, Gifford expresses no regrets about the surgery or the challenging recovery process.

“I often ponder if I would change anything. No, I was pursuing the purpose God set for me on this Earth. I embraced every moment, fulfilling His calling,” she reflected.
