Former Dallas Cowboys player Dez Bryant recently expressed controversial views, claiming that “God didn’t create us to be gay,” during a disjointed rant on social media regarding Olympic boxer Imane Khelif.
Khelif generated significant attention after winning against Angela Carini, who withdrew from their contest 46 seconds in at the Paris Olympics. Khelif was previously reported to have male XY chromosomes following a gender verification test.
Bryant posted his thoughts on X, appearing to address the issue without directly naming Khelif: “God made you a woman for a reason. God made you a man for a reason.”
He added, “God didn’t put you in a foreign body. Also, men shouldn’t be able to compete in women’s divisions. That’s my opinion.”
In response to Bryant’s comments, a fan criticized his stance, stating, “Dez struggles to comprehend the vast diversity of God’s creativity.”

In his ensuing remarks, Bryant discussed LGBTQ+ individuals, including his own mother, stating, “God created a lot of beautiful things, but I know damn well he didn’t create us to be gay…I don’t have problems with gays, just my beliefs.”
He continued, “My mama is gay, and she’s free to do as she pleases. God didn’t make Adam to be with another Adam.”
Bryant expressed his perspective further by referencing traditional gender roles, asserting, “God said Adam wasn’t meant to be alone, so he made Eve. They both have certain parts for a reason. You have men trying to get pregnant… that’s not what’s up.”
Despite the backlash, his comments seemed disconnected from Khelif’s situation, as he later wrote, “I didn’t grow up with positive influences. God placed a desire in my heart to change my environment & my dysfunctional upbringing.”
Bryant added, “The way I walk through the devil grounds with maximum strength is really unheard of… I’m different, and I’ve embraced it a long time ago!”
According to ESPN, Bryant’s mother faced legal troubles related to drug offenses during his childhood.
In 2012, Bryant himself was arrested for allegedly assaulting his mother.
During a 2015 interview with The Dallas Morning News, Bryant revealed he became aware of his mother’s sexuality in high school, admitting, “I didn’t like it. Really, I still don’t. I dealt with it, and now I’m comfortable with it.”
Bryant, now 35, was a first-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft and played with the Cowboys until 2017. He later had stints with the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens and was recognized as a three-time Pro Bowler.
