Marc Guiu, Chelsea’s new striker, expressed that playing in the Premier League has always been his “dream” and refuted claims that he departed Barcelona for financial reasons.
At just 18 years old, the Spanish forward has taken on a key role during Chelsea’s pre-season tour, following the activation of his £5m release clause.
Guiu, who has netted once in four matches during the team’s tour in the United States, turned down a new contract offer from Barcelona prior to his transfer to Stamford Bridge.
He dismissed speculation from Spain suggesting his move was financially motivated, stating: “It was not an issue with my contract.
“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Premier League, and Chelsea is a fantastic club with a rich history.
“It was a difficult choice, but it presented an incredible opportunity, so I had to seize it.”
When asked if he felt ready to compete in the Premier League or if he might prefer a loan, Guiu responded: “I’m solely concentrating on the pre-season tour, putting in my best effort, and that’s all I can offer.
“However, [Chelsea head coach Enzo] Maresca assured me there is a remarkable sporting vision filled with young talent, and he wants me to be a part of it, expressing his confidence in my abilities and potential.
“I believe I’m ready. We train rigorously every day, focusing on both the physical and practical aspects. So I feel prepared to step onto the pitch and support the team whenever needed.”
