David Axelrod, a leading Democratic strategist, remarks that Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is benefiting from the “irrational exuberance” within the Democratic Party following President Biden’s exit.
Axelrod shared these insights during an interview with CNN Newsroom over the weekend. Since then, Harris’ campaign has experienced a remarkable fundraising boost and has begun to close the gap with Trump in the polls.
“She has significant momentum; nonetheless, if you analyze the polling data, it remains a close contest,” he noted. “It’s shaping up to be a tough battle for both candidates, according to current figures.”
“There’s quite a bit of irrational exuberance among Democrats at the moment, replacing a period of gloom about what the results in November might entail,” he added. “Now, there’s a renewed sense of opportunity.”

Despite this positive momentum for Harris, Axelrod stressed that Trump maintains an upper hand in the race, based on current polls.
“Right now, it’s undoubtedly Trump’s race to unlose. He leads in most of the competitive states. While it’s close, these can swing to either candidate,” he stated.

He further advised caution for Democrats regarding their prospects in the upcoming election.

Axelrod emphasized that Trump still maintains an advantage over Harris despite the competitive polling, stressing that Democrats should stay “sober” in their expectations.

2024 SHOWDOWN: TRUMP QUICKLY MOVES TO TRY AND DEFINE HARRIS
Recent Fox News polls conducted after Biden’s significant announcement in three of the seven pivotal states – Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – show Trump and Harris in a very close contest.
Moreover, polling in Minnesota and New Hampshire suggests that Democrats are regaining single-digit leads, with Harris leading the ticket. Although Republicans have not secured a presidential win in these states for several election cycles, recent polls indicate Trump’s competitiveness against Biden.

Some analysts predict Harris may experience a drop in polling support as the initial shock of Biden’s departure fades.
“Soon, Harris’ ‘honeymoon’ period will conclude, leading voters to reassess her role as Biden’s associate and deputy. More critically, voters will start to uncover Harris’ markedly liberal record prior to becoming Biden’s partner,” warned veteran GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio, who works with the Trump campaign, last month.
