Mary Earps, the goalkeeper for England, stated that her decision to leave Manchester United this summer was a “difficult choice,” but she is eager to “add a few more trophies to the cabinet” after making the switch to Paris St-Germain.
In a recent episode of the Tooney & Russo Show, filmed in Ibiza, the 31-year-old reflected on her time at United alongside former teammates Ella Toone and Alessia Russo, with presenter Vick Hope.
Earps joined Manchester United in 2019 and played a key role in their FA Cup victory last year. Nonetheless, they ended the last Women’s Super League season in fifth place, 20 points behind the champions Chelsea, falling three spots from the previous year.
PSG has secured a spot in the Women’s Champions League for six consecutive seasons and made it to the semi-finals in the 2023-24 campaign.
While Earps acknowledged that she had built “wonderful relationships” in Manchester, the chance to play for an esteemed team in top-tier competitions and pursue “the opportunity to win silverware” influenced her choice to leave.
The goalkeeper, who was instrumental in England’s Euro 2022 success and received the Golden Glove as the Lionesses reached the Women’s World Cup final in 2023, expressed her desire for more achievements.
“It’s like an itch you can never fully scratch,” said Earps, who hails from Nottingham, discussing her drive to win additional silverware.
