EXCLUSIVE: Judge Judy Sheindlin is renowned for her authority in the courtroom, and she emphasized the necessity for parents to establish rules at home in a recent interview with Fox News Digital, prior to the release of season three episodes of “Judy Justice.”
With a legacy of 25 years on “Judge Judy” and currently presiding over cases on Amazon Freevee’s “Judy Justice,” Sheindlin stressed the importance of avoiding a “wishy-washy” parenting style, insisting that children need to understand the expectations set for them.
For instance, regarding challenging teenagers, Sheindlin encouraged parents to uphold curfews.
Ultimately, she advised that parents should not attempt to be their children’s “friends,” as this can diminish respect.

“Thus, my advice to parents is to refrain from trying to establish a friendship,” she stated to Fox News Digital.
“It’s common for parents to get into difficulties when they express the intent of wanting to be their kids’ buddy,” she elaborated. “However, children require rules just as adults do. The current state of our country reflects the consequences of blurred boundaries… My philosophy has always been that infants feel secure when wrapped tightly in the womb. That’s why parents are taught to swaddle their newborns tightly, creating a feeling of security. As children grow, they need to gradually loosen that swaddle to enable their independence. However, basic rules must remain in place.”

The beloved television judge reminded parents that kids mimic what they observe at home.
“Every parent, unless they are mentally unwell, desires their children to evolve into responsible, law-abiding, productive individuals and friends,” Sheindlin stated. “It is a parent’s duty to instill moral values at home. That responsibility does not lie with schools or the community. I firmly believe that children learn morality by emulating their parents. If they have amoral parents, then that’s what children will reflect, as that’s all they know.”

She further cautioned against even minor falsehoods.
“Parents aspire for their children to grow up to be triumphant individuals,” she remarked. “If you’re on a call and your 6-year-old answers, and you tell them to tell the caller you’re not available, that might seem harmless. However, you’re actually conveying that lying is acceptable. Children look up to their parents and learn what’s right and wrong from them. Likewise, if they observe you not telling the truth, that’s what they will practice.”

Sheindlin’s son Adam Levy, who judges on “Tribunal Justice,” a show he created and executive produced alongside his mother for Amazon Freevee, shared that her straightforward demeanor shaped his upbringing. He noted that he could never get away with lies in her presence, attributing his growth as a judge to her influence.
“I became the skilled cross-examiner I am today because of her,” he expressed to Fox News Digital. “Whenever I was dishonest or tried to cover up something, she always had a way of knowing. It wasn’t only her intuition; she posed questions that eventually led me to the conclusion that I was lying.”
“I wound up feeling flustered, as she could tell I was being untruthful,” he added. “I’ve managed to incorporate those lessons into my own courtroom approach over the last 25 years. Additionally, she taught me that someone must take charge in the courtroom, which is typically the person best prepared.”

“Ultimately, it’s your responsibility to set a good example for your children,” Sheindlin concluded. “Teach them how to make the right choices. I always advised my kids that while doing the right thing doesn’t guarantee positive outcomes, engaging in wrong actions will definitely come back to haunt you. And they all remember that.”
“Judy Justice,” which recently secured its second Daytime Emmy for “Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program,” premiered with four new episodes on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee on Monday, August 5. A new episode will debut every weekday until October 25. Additionally, season 2 episodes of “Tribunal Justice” are expected to start streaming on Amazon Freevee; however, the release date is yet to be announced by Amazon.

When queried about her downtime outside of presiding over cases, Sheindlin described her routine as “uneventful.”
“I usually spend a bit of time on the treadmill,” she informed Fox Digital. “I’m making an effort to get back into shape, although I’m dealing with a troublesome shoulder. My physical therapist just left, and I’m now conversing with you while icing my shoulder.”
“When I’m off duty, I’m pretty much in a state of relaxation,” she joked. “Each day tends to blend into the next.”
Nevertheless, she relishes her large family, stating they keep her “extremely busy.”
