Simone Biles expressed her frustration towards fans during her balance beam routine on Monday, after a rare slip prevented her from medaling.

This marked the first time the iconic gymnast did not secure a podium finish at the Paris Games, having briefly lost her balance and stepped off the beam.

Consequently, Biles did not increase her total of three gold medals, scoring a disappointing 13.100.

Suni Lee, Biles’ USA teammate, who faced a significant fall from the beam during her routine, shared that both athletes were affected by the ‘tense’ environment within the Bercy Arena.

While encouraging their fellow teammates, Lee noted that the athletes were met with ‘shushing’ sounds from the audience, prompting calls for silence.

“Simone and I were just like, ‘Why are they shushing?’ We were simply trying to cheer,” Lee commented after her own challenging performance on the beam.

“After Biles’ performance, she mentioned, ‘I don’t understand why they were shushing in the middle of my routine.’

When broadcast cameras focused on her, Biles seemed to question her coach about the fans’ behavior following her dismount from the beam.
