She excelled amidst the cheers of an enthusiastic Stade de France crowd, clocking a stunning time of 1 minute 56.72 seconds, claiming the title of Olympic champion.
Hodgkinson strategically waited for a competitor to set the pace, which Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma ultimately did.
This was all part of Hodgkinson’s game plan, as she positioned herself just behind her rival, prepared to take the lead.
She seized the opportunity moments later, moving into the lead three-quarters of the way through the first lap, and she never looked back.
As the halfway bell sounded, the elite athletes picked up the pace in a frantic effort to secure a spot on the Olympic podium.
Particularly, Hodgkinson needed to fend off a strong challenge from Moraa, who was neck-and-neck with the Brit during the latter part of the race.
However, the Team GB icon effortlessly accelerated, distancing herself from the competition to cross the finish line victoriously.
