GOP Senate candidate from Arizona, Kari Lake, announced on Tuesday an upcoming event featuring both current and former Democrats who are endorsing her campaign.
This coalition, named “Democrats/Former Democrats for Kari Lake & America First,” was introduced following the announcement of Vice President Kamala Harris’ “Republicans for Harris” initiative, which included a press conference in Mesa, Arizona. This comes in the wake of Lake’s opponent for the Senate, Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., launching his own “Republicans and Independents for Ruben” coalition.
Lake urged the media to provide as much attention to her event on Thursday as they have for the events held by Harris and Gallego.

“Hello Media— We see the extensive coverage you’ve given to Kamala and her preferred liberal congressman Ruben Gallego regarding their ‘Republicans’ for Kamala/Ruben/America Last press conferences,” Lake stated on the social media platform X.
“We request that you provide equal coverage for our event taking place this Thursday. It’s titled Democrats/Former Democrats for Kari Lake & America First,” she added. “Mark your calendars, and we’ll inform you of the time and location soon. I assure you, it will be enlightening.”
On Sunday, Gallego announced endorsements from 40 Republicans and independents, including officials and operatives previously aligned with other Democrats, to demonstrate his bipartisan appeal as he aims to defeat Lake come November, according to The Arizona Republic.

Notably, at least ten of Gallego’s supporters have also endorsed Harris for president, according to reports.
The “Republicans for Harris” initiative, featuring “Never Trumpers,” also formally launched on Sunday, highlighting several former officials, including ex-Trump White House personnel Stephanie Grisham and Olivia Troye. This initiative comes as Harris’ campaign aims to rebrand her more centrally to prepare for the upcoming presidential election against former President Trump in November.
Both Lake and Gallego will compete in the general election this November. Arizona’s open Senate seat, currently occupied by outgoing Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, is classified as “Lean Democratic” by the non-partisan Cook Political Report.
