- The French athlete unfortunately snagged a sensitive body part on the bar
Observant fans believe they have finally deciphered the meaning behind Anthony Ammirati’s tattoo after his viral moment during a humorous failed pole vault attempt.
The Frenchman was eliminated from the pole vault semi-finals on Saturday when his knee—and prominent manhood—appeared to get caught on the 5.70-meter bar.
His unfortunate incident quickly spread across social media, and after finishing 12th in his semi-final with a best jump of 5.60m, he described it as a ‘big disappointment.’
Now, fans are focusing on the snake tattoo that coils around his right arm, believing it reveals everything we need to know about him.
‘Anthony Ammirati will never need to explain his forearm tattoo again. Message received and understood,’ one fan expressed on X, formerly Twitter.

‘Never forget: This is the moment when the tattoo made sense,’ another tweet read.
Ammirati has sported the tattoo for at least a couple of years, with an Instagram post from April 2022 showcasing the ink.
He is not the first Olympian to accidentally catch himself on the bar; Japanese pole vaulter Hiroki Ogita faced the same unfortunate accident during the qualifying rounds at Rio 2016.
Neither of Ammirati’s fellow countrymen, Robin Emig and Thibault Collet, qualified for the final but did not experience a similar setback. The final on Monday was secured by Sweden’s Armand Duplantis.
“It’s a major disappointment,” Ammirati told the French Athletics Federation. “I’m a bit saddened because I didn’t miss anything on my third attempt at 5.70m. What I lacked was a bit of training to fine-tune my technique—a technical session.”
He continued, “I was physically at 100 percent, but missing some pole vault training. The conditions were good. For the first time, I started a competition without any stress. Being a total outsider, I had one goal: to connect with the audience. I was nearly there.”

Ammirati’s notable blunder garnered widespread attention online, leaving fans in laughter after his private part cost him a podium finish.
‘Anthony Ammirati failed to clear the bar, and commentators are already struggling to address what just happened. Help, I’m dying,’ one user posted on X.
‘Unlucky, but also a good flex,’ noted another commentator.
‘What a way to lose… and yet his man ego remains intact,’ someone else remarked.
