A U.S. military veteran originally from India secured victory in the Kansas GOP primary for the 3rd Congressional District on Tuesday, as Republicans aim to reclaim the seat in the upcoming November elections.

Dr. Prasanth Reddy, who transitioned from being a physician to a high-ranking Labcorp executive, was a strong contender against his opponent, Karen Crnkovich.

Reddy received endorsements from prominent House Republicans, including Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), and was just named last week to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) “Young Guns” list.

He will now face Rep. Sharice Davids, a moderate Democrat from Kansas, who is vying for a fourth term in the House.

“The extreme House Democrat Sharice Davids has exacerbated the crises involving the border, crime, and the cost of living, negatively impacting the safety and security of Kansans. Prasanth Reddy is well-positioned to turn Kansas’ 3rd District red and assist in expanding our House majority this November,” said Delanie Bomar, spokeswoman for the House GOP campaign arm, last week.

During the primary cycle, Reddy significantly outpaced Crnkovich in fundraising, amassing over $1.3 million compared to her total of slightly more than $150,000.

However, both amounts trail behind the over $3 million that Davids has raised to date.

Winning her seat amid the Democratic surge of 2018, Davids was one of the first Native American women sworn into Congress and remains the only Democrat in Kansas’ congressional delegation.

The Cook Political Report categorizes her seat as an R+1 district, making it a key target for Republicans aiming to maintain and widen their narrow House majority.

Davids previously secured victory in the district by defeating former incumbent Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Kan.) by a margin of just under 10 points, and she has incrementally increased her winning margin since that time.

The district has a predominantly White demographic and encompasses a large part of the Kansas City metropolitan area, making it the least Republican-leaning among Kansas’ congressional districts.
