Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has been found guilty on two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Last week, Tuscaloosa County District Judge Joanne Jannik sentenced Buggs to one year of hard labor, ordering him to serve 60 days in jail, with the remainder suspended for two years, “contingent on the defendant’s behavior.”
Buggs is barred from possessing firearms and is not allowed to own any dogs or cats.

The 27-year-old surrendered to authorities in Tuscaloosa last month regarding the animal cruelty allegations after two dogs were reportedly found “severely malnourished, emaciated, and neglected” on the back porch of a residence he was renting.
Buggs was accused of leaving a gray and white pit bull and a black rottweiler without food or water on the back porch of the Tuscaloosa home. While the pit bull had access to a screened-in porch, the rottweiler was allegedly confined in a metal cage exposed to direct sunlight.

Court documents acquired by Tuscaloosa Patch stated that police were tipped off on March 28 about dogs being left on the porch. Witnesses claimed that Buggs had vacated the residence on March 19 due to over $3,100 in unpaid rent.
Last month, as he awaited the outcome of his animal cruelty case, he was arrested and subsequently booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail for domestic violence/burglary, according to jail records.
The Chiefs released him shortly after the domestic arrest.
