The U.S. women’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay team earned a silver medal during the final at Paris La Defense Arena on Saturday night.
Despite their efforts, the U.S. team couldn’t surpass Australia, which took home the gold with a time of 3:28.92, while the U.S. finished at 3:30.20.
However, the U.S. managed to outpace another competitor, China, winning by a margin of just one-tenth of a second (3:30.30).

In a dramatic finish, it was Simone Manuel, serving as the anchor for Team USA, who reached out to touch the wall just before China could, securing their silver.
Throughout the race, Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh, and Torri Huske cheered on Manuel as she made her sprint to clinch the medal.

For Australia, this victory marks a remarkable fourth consecutive Olympics where they have taken home the gold medal. The team comprised of Emma McKeon, Mollie O’Callaghan, Meg Harris, and Shayna Jack swam flawlessly.
McKeon, the renowned 30-year-old Australian swimmer, now has secured her sixth Olympic gold and twelfth overall medal in her prestigious career.

With this medal, McKeon ties the record held by Americans Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres, and Natalie Coughlin for the most career Olympic medals earned by a female swimmer.
In an earlier event on Saturday, U.S. star Katie Ledecky secured third place in the 400-meter freestyle, earning her first bronze and her 11th career Olympic medal.
Among the U.S. relay swimmers, Manuel is the only one with prior Olympic experience, having participated in the same event at the 2020 Olympics.
